Amagba, Benin City, Edo State — Senator Monday Okpebholo has ordered the demolition of the National Headquarters of the Aye (NBM) cult group in Amagba. This action follows a recent spate of clashes attributed to the group, which left several residents in fear and disrupted the peace of the community.
The demolition, carried out under the supervision of state security forces, according to the state government, is part of Okpebholo’s broader strategy to combat cultism and restore law and order in Edo State. Speaking to reporters, Okpebholo emphasized his administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards criminal activities, particularly those that threaten the safety and well-being of citizens.
“We cannot allow these groups to hold our communities hostage,” he stated. “This demolition sends a clear message: there is no place for cultism in Edo State.”
Residents of Amagba have expressed mixed reactions to the demolition. While some praised the government for taking a firm stand against cultism, others raised concerns about the potential for retaliation and the need for sustained efforts to address the root causes of such violence.
The state government has pledged to increase security presence in the area and implement community outreach programs aimed at preventing youth involvement in cult activities. Okpebholo also called on community leaders and stakeholders to collaborate with the government in its fight against cultism.
