Benin City, Edo State – Governor Godwin Obaseki has commended public servants and pensioners in Edo State for their immense contributions and support during his eight-year tenure.
At separate meetings with civil servants at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and pensioners at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy on Thursday, September 19, 2024, Obaseki expressed gratitude and urged them to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, in the September 21 gubernatorial election.
“I am grateful for your support over the last eight years,” Obaseki said. “Your cooperation has been instrumental in our achievements. We have laid the foundation, but there is still much to be accomplished.”
Obaseki highlighted his administration’s accomplishments, noting that over 1,200 kilometers of roads have been tarred, infrastructure development has been prioritized, human capacity development has been enhanced, and the civil service has been transformed. He emphasized the significance of these achievements in improving the lives of Edo State citizens.
However, he emphasized that more needs to be done, stressing that the state has approximately 25,000 kilometers of roads remaining to be tarred, and continued infrastructure development is crucial. He also mentioned the ongoing Coral City project, which will provide housing for thousands of residents.
“We cannot afford to slow down,” Obaseki stressed. “Saturday’s election is crucial. Electing Dr. Ighodalo will ensure continuity and progress. He understands the vision we have for Edo State and is committed to taking it to the next level.”
Addressing pensioners, Obaseki commended their cooperation and patience with the pension reforms implemented by his administration. “I made a promise to switch to the Contributory Pension Scheme, and we have settled all pension arrears since January 1, 2017,” Obaseki said.
He urged pensioners to vote for Dr. Ighodalo to sustain the reforms and ensure continuous development. “Dr. Ighodalo’s election will guarantee the sustenance of ongoing reforms and improvements in the standard of living for Edo State citizens and residents.”
Obaseki assured the public servants and pensioners that Dr. Ighodalo possesses the required expertise and experience to drive the state’s growth. “He is a seasoned professional with a proven track record of success. I have no doubt that he will continue to build on our achievements.”
The Governor emphasized the importance of continuity, stating that changing course now would hinder the state’s progress. “We have come too far to turn back now. Let us continue on this path of progress and development.”
The Edo State Governorship Election is scheduled for September 21, 2024.
