Bayelsa Queens and FC Robo of Lagos began their opening game in the ongoing third edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT) with a win over their opponents.
The opening Group B match between Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons which began at 10 am on Tuesday, at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) Sports Complex, ended 2 goals to nil in favour of Bayelsa Queens, who dominated the match.
The first goal was recorded by Blessing Abiola in the 12th minute of play, while the second goal was scored through a penalty at the 24 minute by the Most Valuable Player of the match, Abiola Blessing.
The Group C opening match between FC Robo International and Fortress Ladies at the UNIBEN Sports Complex, which began at 2 pm, ended three goals to one in favour of FC Robo.
Deborah Peters of FC Robo opened the score-line in the 15th minute of play, while Marvelous Akpoboro, recorded an equalizer in the 28th minute into the first-half
A second goal was recorded in the 59th minute of play in the second half in favour of FC Robo. FC Robo sealed their 3 points with a goal in the 87th minute.
In a post-match interview, Folashade Ijamulisi of FC Robo emerged as the Most Valuable Player.
An under-17 national team player, Folashade said her team’s fighting spirit gave them their win, adding that the task before the BOWFT defending champions is to qualify for the group stage of the 3rd edition of the competition.
