The Edo State Government through its Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues has rescued six babies in the past few weeks, as part of its commitment to the social wellbeing of residents in the State.
The recent case of a set of triplets who were delivered at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), whose mother died after delivery, resonates the fulfillment of the promise by Governor Godwin Obaseki that “all residents will have a feel of the activities of his administration”.
In an address at the premises of the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues, the Commissioner, Hon. Christabel Omoh Ekwu, represented by the Director of Child, Mrs. Kate Bello, disclosed that a total number of six babies have been rescued in the past few weeks by the State Government for proper caring and rehabilitation purposes.
Hon. Ekwu noted that the Obaseki-led administration has always been opened to give help to the vulnerable and children in the State, citing the recent case where the motherless triplets would have been placed under the care of their father, who is a guard in a private office in Benin City, if the State Government had not intervened.
The Commissioner disclosed that the three babies have been discharged from the UBTH, and have been assigned to an approved orphanage for a healthy upkeep at the expense of the State Government.
