The Social Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Kogi State, Murtala Ajaka, was assaulted by unidentified assailants at the Supreme Court today.
The incident occurred shortly after the Supreme Court upheld the election of Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress as the Governor of Kogi State.
Ajaka had contested the result of the November 11, 2023, election, which was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission and declared Ododo the winner. However, in a unanimous decision, a five-member panel of the apex court affirmed Ododo’s victory and dismissed Ajaka’s request to void the election.
According to PUNCH, the attack on Ajaka occurred immediately after the Supreme Court’s ruling. The circumstances surrounding the assault are currently unclear.
