Benin City, Edo State – Nigerian music sensation, Davido, has thrown his weight behind Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in the upcoming Edo governorship election.
Davido took to his social media platforms on Sunday, urging young voters to support Ighodalo, who hails from the same homeland as his late mother.
“Ighodalo is the right candidate to vote for,” Davido said, sharing a picture of the PDP candidate with the caption: “The next governor of my mother’s homeland.”
This endorsement comes as no surprise, given Davido’s massive influence among young Nigerians. With millions of followers on social media, his backing could significantly impact the election narrative.
Davido joins other prominent celebrities, including Banky W, Adesua Etomi, Etinosa, and Charles Onojie, in supporting Ighodalo’s candidacy.
Additionally, influential figures like Dr. Aloy Chife, former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and former governors Liyel Imoke and Donald Duke of Cross River State have publicly endorsed Ighodalo.
The combination of celebrity endorsements and support from political heavyweights is expected to boost PDP’s chances in the fiercely contested election.
The Edo governorship election is scheduled to take place on September 21.
