Benin City, January 9, 2025 — The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported a staggering 188 road crashes in Edo State over the past year, resulting in the tragic loss of 90 lives. This alarming statistic has prompted the FRSC to intensify its road safety awareness campaigns across the state.
The FRSC’s Edo State Sector Commander, Mr. Henry Benamaisia, expressed deep concern over the rising number of road accidents and fatalities. He emphasized the need for increased public awareness and adherence to road safety regulations to prevent further loss of life.
“These numbers are not just statistics; they represent real people—mothers, fathers, children—whose lives have been cut short due to preventable road accidents,” said Mr. Benamaisia. “We must all take responsibility for our actions on the road and work together to create a safer environment for everyone.”
The FRSC has identified several key factors contributing to the high rate of road accidents in Edo State, including speeding, reckless driving, and non-compliance with traffic rules. To address these issues, the FRSC has launched a series of initiatives aimed at educating drivers and promoting safe driving practices.
One such initiative is the “Safe Roads, Safe Lives” campaign, which involves community outreach programs, road safety workshops, and the distribution of educational materials. The FRSC is also collaborating with local authorities and stakeholders to improve road infrastructure and enforce traffic regulations more effectively.
In addition to these efforts, the FRSC is urging motorists to prioritize regular vehicle maintenance and to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The agency is also advocating for the use of seat belts and child safety seats to reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accident.
As the FRSC continues its road safety awareness campaigns, the people of Edo State are encouraged to play their part in making the roads safer for everyone. By adhering to traffic rules and practicing safe driving habits, we can collectively reduce the number of road accidents and save lives.
