Friday January 31 – A key witness for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) delivered explosive testimony that left the courtroom in shock. The witness, a data analyst and director of research and strategy for the PDP, Mr. Ose Anenih, presented detailed evidence of alleged widespread irregularities in the September 21, 2024, gubernatorial election.
The witness’ testimony included a forensic review of election documents, such as BVAS accreditation reports, IREV results, and certified copies of INEC forms. He highlighted significant discrepancies, including over-voting and incorrect collation in numerous polling units. The witness claimed that these irregularities were substantial enough to challenge the validity of the election results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
As the testimony unfolded, tensions in the courtroom escalated. Former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, who was present to support Monday Okpebholo, stormed out of the tribunal in apparent frustration. Oshiomhole’s departure underscored the high stakes and intense emotions surrounding the tribunal proceedings.
The PDP’s legal team argued that the evidence presented by their witness demonstrated a clear case of electoral malpractice. They contended that the election results should be nullified and called for a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities.
Monday Okpebholo’s legal team, however, maintained that the election was conducted fairly and that the PDP’s claims were unfounded. They questioned the credibility of the witness and the validity of the evidence presented.
