In a decisive move, the Edo State Government has ramped up efforts to dismantle cult networks and violent syndicates. During a coordinated sweep called “Operation Flush Out Cultists and Kidnappers,” officials sealed off a shrine discovered in the Egbaen community of Egor Local Government Area. Found inside were a white casket and various fetish items believed to have been used in initiation rituals
This action followed a deadly clash between Eiye and Maphite confraternities in Evboyare (Uhunmwode LGA), which claimed the life of a man named Festus. Authorities sealed the residence of Felix Aigbedion—a suspected Maphite leader accused of orchestrating the violence—and declared him wanted.
Security forces also uncovered two homemade firearms stored in a poultry house, thought to serve as an armory for the cultists. The violence inflicted significant damage on homes, vehicles, and public areas, displacing several families in the process.
Idemudia Noah, coordinating the operation, emphasized Edo State’s resolve to dismantle criminal groups, warning that cultists must “renounce or leave Edo State” or face legal consequences. Prosecutors are currently pursuing charges, and amnesty remains on the table for those who choose to repent.
