People living in some parts of Benin City are expressing rising concerns about the regular cases of power failures. They are appealing for help from the electricity distribution company as well as the Edo State Government.
The areas affected, according to observers, are Ugbowo, Upper Sakponba, and some parts of GRA, which have been facing power fluctuations for some weeks now. The owners of small business and ventures claim that the situation affecting electricity has impacted their operations.
“We spend more on fuel than we make on a daily basis,” said a shop owner, who described the situation as unsustainable.
However, despite the lack of an official explanation, affected residents have been calling on the Benin Electricity Distribution Company to shed more light on the power outage.
Community leaders have also called on the state government to engage relevant stakeholders to help reduce the effects on the community.
