The Federal Government has announced a comprehensive review of existing power sector policies as Nigerians continue to grapple with inconsistent electricity supply.
Officials from the Ministry of Power said the review will focus on improving generation capacity, strengthening transmission infrastructure, and addressing distribution inefficiencies. The government acknowledged that power outages continue to affect households, businesses, and industrial productivity.
Energy experts say issues such as aging infrastructure, gas supply constraints, vandalism, and financial shortfalls within distribution companies remain major obstacles. Many small and medium-sized enterprises report rising operating costs as they rely heavily on generators.
Consumer advocacy groups have called for increased transparency and accountability in the sector, urging the government to ensure that reforms translate into measurable improvements.
The Ministry assured Nigerians that stakeholder consultations are ongoing and that policy adjustments will prioritize sustainability, affordability, and improved service delivery.
