The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai is currently in its custody in connection with an ongoing investigation.
According to the commission’s spokesperson, John Odey, El-Rufai remained in ICPC custody as of the close of work on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
In an official statement, the commission noted that the former governor is being held as part of investigative proceedings but did not disclose details about the allegations or the scope of the case.
Invitation Followed Earlier Allegations
The development comes after a series of allegations linked to El-Rufai and his engagements with security agencies in recent days.
Last week, the former governor—who is also a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—confirmed that he had received an invitation from the ICPC.
In a post on X, he stated that his legal team had responded to the commission, confirming his readiness to honour the invitation on the scheduled date.
Further details about the investigation are yet to be made public.
