The Edo State Acting Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, on Thursday, said the state government will continue to prioritise investment in education, health, security, agriculture and other critical sectors of the state’s economy, ensuring a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
Shaibu gave the assurance when he received the leadership of the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) led by the Postmaster-General, Dr. Ismail Adebayo Adewusi, who was on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin City.
The acting governor, who restated the government’s commitment to the safety and security of citizens and businesses, said the state is working assiduously to retain the top spot as the safest state in the country.
He said, “The focus of this administration is to leverage our comparative advantage to work for the people and make the state the safest in the nation.
“The government is working to ensure peace and create more employment opportunities for Edo people.”
Shaibu noted that the state government has made a significant impact in basic education, healthcare, transportation, commerce and other critical sectors of the state, and will sustain efforts at improving the livelihoods of the people.
He added, “We are happy to partner with NIPOST and the partnership has been helpful as it has helped us check the recent protest of logistics operators in the state. We were able to address the issues and will continue to work together for the benefit of our people.
“If the sector is not closely monitored, it might be used negatively to destroy the peace and security of the state and nation.
Shaibu further noted, “We will visit the sporting facilities in your office to see things for ourselves as sports is part of our focus. We are attracting investment in the sector. We have a Sports Commission that is ready to address the issue of sports and reposition sports in the state.”
On his part, the Postmaster-General commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for providing exceptional leadership that has translated into the massive infrastructural development in sports, education, health, and other sectors.
He added, “I thank Governor Godwin Obaseki for his continuous support for the NIPOST as all his promises to the organisation last year have been met.”
