Poised to improve the business operating environment in the state and provide an alternative to litigation through the Multi-Door Court House, the Edo State Government has commenced another training of 50 persons in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
The training is sponsored by the German Agency for International Development in the Pro-poor Growth and Promotion of Employment in Nigeria (GIZ-SEDEN) in collaboration with the Edo State Judiciary.
Declaring the training open, the Chief Judge of Edo State and Chairman Governing Council of the Edo State Multi-Door Court House, Hon. Justice J.I. Acha, who was represented by the Acting Director of the Edo State Multi-Door Court House, Mrs. E.O. Aimofumeh commended GIZ-SEDIN for the training in areas that can spur economic growth in the state.
According to the Chief Judge, “This programme is one of the several training held under the sponsorship of SEDIN-GIZ which has culminated in the accreditation and certification of hundreds of persons in Edo State by the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) in the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). There has been a surge in the growth and development of ADR in the last decades in Nigeria. The resolution of disputes via the ADR mechanism is geared towards the promotion of peace and harmony in the society.”
On her part, the Commissioner for Physical Planning, Urban and Regional Development, Isoken Omo, encouraged participants to seize the opportunity afforded by the training to learn and further contribute their quota to the development of the state.
Facilitators at the training include the Coordinator of GIZ-SEDIN in Edo State, Ms. Blessing Oluwatosin Ajimoti; President, Institute Chartered Mediator and Conciliators (ICMC), Dr. Elachi Agada; Former President of the Institute of Chartered Mediator and Conciliators (ICMC) and standing in for the President of Mediation Training Institute (MTI-Nigeria), Dr. Louis Ogbeifun.
Participants were drawn from the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government, including the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO), the Ministry of Physical Planning, Urban and Regional Development; the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives, and Edo State Judiciary, among others.
