In a bold move to strengthen its anti-corruption efforts, the Namibian government has sought the expertise of Nigeria’s Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The partnership aims to explore training opportunities and share expertise with the Namibian Anti-corruption Commission. This collaborative effort recognizes Nigeria’s remarkable achievements in combating corruption and its position as a leader in Africa.
Training opportunities will focus on investigating and prosecuting corruption cases. The partnership will also explore the recovery of stolen assets, learning from Nigeria’s successes. Additionally, both countries will exchange best practices in anti-corruption strategies.
Namibia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Humphrey Geise, made the request during a courtesy call to the ICPC headquarters in Abuja. He acknowledged Nigeria’s “exalted position” in the fight against corruption and expressed Namibia’s desire to learn from its successes.
This collaboration underscores the importance of regional cooperation in combating corruption. By sharing expertise and best practices, both countries aim to promote transparency and accountability.
This partnership demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to leading the fight against corruption in Africa. As Nigeria shares its expertise, other African countries may follow Namibia’s lead.
