The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki; his wife Betsy; Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Tony Aziegbemi and other top government functionaries, at the weekend, visited the people of Olomu Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, to commiserate with them over the passing of their monarch, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Ovie (Dr.) Richard Layeguen Ogbon Ogoni-Oghoro I, the Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom.
Obaseki, while speaking to chiefs and members of the royal family, hailed the outstanding and exemplary life of the late traditional ruler.
He said, “Before the Lord called him, he stood as one f the oldest monarchs in the world.
“At 106 years, he remained mentally alert. No Sunday passed without receiving a phone call or message from HRM. He was a unique individual and has contributed greatly to the education sector and public service of the then Bendel State before retiring.
“His contributions to national affairs is wonderful, as he has his own analysis of what is going on in the country. He lived a great and fulfilled life, a life of service, as he gave so much to the people. We are here not to condole bu to celebrate for producing such an outstanding and great monarch.”
Obaseki added, “We are here to thank God for his life andhis many achievements. I am here today in company of my wife whose mother is one of you. We are here to strengthen you and will be here for his burial ceremony.”
The Prime Minister of the Kingdom, Olorogun Macaulay, Ovbagbedia Otota of Olomu Kingdom, thanked the governor, his wife and the entourage for the condolence visit to the people of Olomu Kingdom.
“We thank you for this visit and it has shown that you love the Kingdom and its people. Our king lived a fulfilled life and was blessed with age as he lived for 106 years and we are happy,” he said.
