Edo State Governor Condoles with Borno Government, Urges Authorities to Enhance Rescue Efforts
Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has commiserated with his Borno State counterpart, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State and the families of victims of the severe flooding which ravaged Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, claiming at least 30 lives and destroying properties worth billions of naira.
“We are deeply saddened by the news of the devastating floods which ravaged Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, claiming at least 30 lives and destroying properties worth billions of naira. Our hearts are with the Government and people of Borno State, especially the families who lost their loved ones in this very unfortunate incident,” Obaseki said.
“The awful event is a stark reminder of our vulnerability to natural disasters and brings to the fore the need for proactive measures, rejigging our climate change strategies and fortifying our prevention and mitigation strategies, including the emplacement of early warning systems across the country, among others to reduce the devastating impact of future natural disasters,” he added.
“While we urge the government and relevant agencies to beef up rescue efforts and expedite evacuation of residents in communities affected by the devastating floods, we pray for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident. On behalf of the government and good people of Edo State, I offer my deepest condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State and the affected families over this painful incident.”
