The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has been commended for his outstanding contributions to sports development in the state. The Edo State Sports Commission praised the governor for his leadership, which has resulted in numerous achievements in the sports sector.
The commendation follows the recent victory of the Edo Queens, the state’s female football team, in the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B Qualifiers. The team emerged unbeaten, winning the championship and earning a spot in the continental championship scheduled for later this year.
Yussuf Alli, Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, highlighted the governor’s achievements, including being the first governor to win the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B Qualifiers since 2005 and the first governor to win the FA Cup with Bendel Insurance after 39 years.
Alli stated, “Your Excellency, we congratulate you and the people of Edo State on the victory of Edo Queens. We are grateful for the successes recorded in the sports sector under your leadership. You have made history with sports development, and your name will be remembered in the history books of Edo State and Nigeria.”
The Sports Commission assured the governor of their continued support, acknowledging the contributions of the First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, in repositioning the sports sector and improving the lives of Edo people.
