In a remarkable victory for the Edo State Police Command, two suspected kidnappers, identified as Kamsiru Abubakar (20) and Akhor Daraman (28), have been apprehended in Ugonoba village, located in Uhunmwode Local Government Area. The arrests, made within the last 24 hours, have sent waves of relief across communities in Edo State plagued by fears of abductions.
Acting on credible intelligence, the police team carried out a precision raid on the suspects’ hideout, leading to an intense pursuit before their eventual capture. Speaking to reporters, the Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, revealed that these individuals had been under surveillance for weeks due to their suspected involvement in several high-profile kidnappings.
During the operation, weapons, mobile phones, and ransom-related items were recovered, providing crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation. Victims who escaped the kidnappers’ grip have courageously identified the two men, confirming their roles in previous crimes.
One survivor recounted their harrowing ordeal, saying, “They blindfolded us for days, feeding us only scraps. I thought I would never see my family again. I thank God and the police for saving us.”
The police have assured the public that this successful operation is a testament to the efficacy of the “Operation Rescue” initiative, aimed at dismantling criminal networks across the state.
