Benin City, April 28, 2025—The Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued seven kidnapped victims in a high-risk operation that took place in the early hours of Monday. The rescue mission, conducted in a dense forest near Benin City, saw officers engage in intense gunfire with the abductors, resulting in casualties on both sides.
According to police sources, the victims—four men and three women—were abducted last week while traveling along the Auchi-Benin Expressway. Following intelligence reports, security operatives launched a well-coordinated raid on the criminals’ hideout, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. Sadly, a vigilante officer who participated in the operation lost his life.
Speaking to journalists, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Uwaila Omosun, described the operation as “a necessary step to ensure the safety of citizens.” He confirmed that the rescued victims had undergone medical examinations and were reunited with their families.
“We remain committed to tackling violent crime and ensuring that criminal elements have no hiding place in Edo State,” DSP Omosun stated.
Families of the rescued individuals expressed their gratitude to the police while calling for increased security measures to prevent further abductions. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to track down fleeing members of the kidnap gang.
