The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady of Edo State, Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has called for increased female participation in politics and governance, describing women’s involvement as essential to Nigeria’s long-term stability and sustainable development.
She made the appeal in Abuja during the inauguration and award ceremony of APC Dynamic Women for President Tinubu 2027, where she received an Award of Excellence on behalf of the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo.
The recognition was given in acknowledgment of the Edo State government’s commitment to policies and programmes focused on empowering women across various sectors.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Anani highlighted the administration’s SHINE Agenda, explaining that it has expanded opportunities for women through inclusive initiatives in healthcare, agriculture, social welfare, skills acquisition, and economic empowerment.
She noted that women-owned enterprises, market traders, and young female entrepreneurs are benefiting from targeted support designed to promote financial independence and participation in governance.
“There is inclusion across different sectors of government. Women-led businesses are being supported, and grassroots entrepreneurs are receiving empowerment. We are honoured by this recognition,” she said.
Mrs Anani further stressed the strategic role of women in the electoral process, pointing out that women represent a significant portion of the voting population. As preparations gradually begin ahead of the 2027 general elections, she urged women to actively engage their communities and strengthen grassroots mobilisation efforts.
Also speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of APC Dynamic Women for Tinubu 2027, Dorcas Peter Azi, encouraged newly inaugurated officials to remain committed to mobilising support for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
She emphasised that structured grassroots engagement would be crucial in consolidating support and advancing the administration’s development agenda nationwide.
The event drew prominent stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), elected representatives, government officials, and women leaders from across Nigeria.
APC Dynamic Women for President Tinubu 2027, initially formed in 2022 to support the President’s campaign, unveiled a new leadership structure aimed at repositioning the group ahead of the 2027 elections.
