The Edo State Government has embarked on a statewide verification exercise of civil servants in a bid to strengthen transparency and update the efficiency of the public service.
Officials from the Office of the Head of Service said the exercise would update personnel records, clear payroll irregularities, and ensure that only genuine workers remained on the state’s payroll.
The verification exercise, which started this week, is supposed to make the affected employees present valid identification documents, employment records, and biometric data. Government representatives explained that the initiative would help check ghost-worker syndrome and boost fiscal discipline.
The civil servants have been called upon to cooperate fully with the verification officers so that salaries are not disrupted. The state government then assured the workers that the exercise was routine and did not target any victim.
The drill is expected to be on for several days across all strata of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) in the state.
