The Edo State Government has commenced repair works on failed sections of the Benin–Auchi Road, following months of complaints from motorists, commuters, and transport operators over deteriorating road conditions.
Officials from the Ministry of Roads and Bridges confirmed that the intervention focuses on critical points along the route where erosion, potholes, and drainage failures have slowed traffic and increased accident risks. Heavy-duty equipment has been deployed to affected areas, with construction teams already working on resurfacing and drainage improvement.
The Benin–Auchi Road is a major economic corridor linking Edo North communities to Benin City and neighboring states. Residents and traders say poor road conditions previously led to increased travel time, vehicle damage, and higher transport costs.
A government spokesperson stated that the repairs are part of a broader infrastructure maintenance plan aimed at easing movement, supporting commerce, and improving road safety across the state.
Motorists have welcomed the development but urged authorities to ensure proper supervision to guarantee durability. The government assured residents that the project would be completed within schedule, weather permitting.
