Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the appointment of popular Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy in Edo State.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued in Benin City by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, who said the actress is expected to use her wide public influence and communication experience to strengthen citizens’ interaction with government programmes and policies.
According to the statement, the appointment reflects the administration’s effort to leverage credible public figures to enhance governance and community engagement across the state.
Johnson-Okojie is regarded as one of Nigeria’s most prominent film personalities, with a career spanning nearly two decades and appearances in over 200 movies. Her contributions to the entertainment industry have earned her several recognitions, including nominations at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
Beyond her film career, the statement highlighted her philanthropic work through the Mercy Johnson-Okojie Foundation, where she has supported initiatives focused on women empowerment, child welfare, education, and healthcare outreach.
Ikhilor added that her experience in advocacy and community development is expected to support the government’s vision of improving public awareness and participation in governance.
