The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki; his wife, Betsy; former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Tom Ikimi, and other leaders of the PDP in Edo State were among guests present at the 30 years’ remembrance of late Mrs. Grace Iyonawan Oyemwense, mother of former Edo first lady, Mrs. Eki Igbinedion.
Governor Godwin Obaseki while speaking to journalists at the venue of the event, in Benin City, described the deceased as a trailblazer who inculcated the virtues of hard work, humility and self-confidence in her children and those who came around her.
He said, “30 years on, we have every reason to thank God for Mama’s life and the legacy she left behind. Today, we are remembering her, more importantly, remembering what she lived for, stood for, and the values she exhibited while she was alive. Like the Bible says, those who believe never die but transit.”
Former first lady of Edo State, Eki Igbinedion thanked God for the life of her mother, saying that she left a good legacy behind and impacted positively on anyone who came in contact with her.
“My mother left a great legacy behind and we are riding on her legacy. She disciplined her children and gave them the best education possible,” she noted.
