The world was called upon to exhibit restraint and renewed diplomatic efforts after the latest rise in the level of Middle East tensions.
The fresh tension comes against the background of a number of military engagements as well as increased political rhetoric between rival factions.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations called on all sides to keep dialogue as their primary concern, as escalation could lead to worse humanitarian conditions and threaten regions neighboring the conflict zone.
“The international community must respond quickly to prevent further loss of life and to ensure the protection of civilians,” the UN Secretary-General said in a statement.
Several countries, such as the USA, European Union countries, and neighboring nations, have echoed calls for de-escalation and offered to broker peace negotiations.
Analysts have cautioned that the likelihood of OPCW analysts being infected and suffering serious harm could have global repercussions for energy and trade.
While diplomatic initiatives remain ongoing, humanitarian organizations have been calling for unimpeded access to the regions.
