Benin City—In a significant development, Hon. Samson Osagie, Ph.D., has been reinstated as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Edo State. This decision follows the findings of an investigative panel that cleared him of allegations of financial infractions.
The suspension, which began on February 5, 2025, was initiated by Governor Monday Okpebholo to allow for a thorough investigation into the claims. The panel’s report, which exonerated Hon. Osagie, has now paved the way for his return to office.
In a letter dated March 12, 2025, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., the directive for Hon. Osagie’s reinstatement was conveyed. The letter stated, “Having considered the report of the Investigative Panel set up by Government to investigate allegations of financial infractions reported against you, which has exonerated you from the said allegations, I write to convey the directive of the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, that you resume duties as the State Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice with effect from 12th March, 2025.”
Reacting to the development, Hon. Osagie expressed gratitude to the governor for his commitment to due process and fairness. “I appreciate His Excellency’s sincerity of purpose and vision for Edo State. This reinstatement is a testament to his dedication to justice and accountability,” he remarked.
