The Edo State Government has assured members of the Association of Lunatic Healers, of the government’s support in the discharge of their services in the state.
Representative of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues and Director of Rehabilitation Services Department, Mr. Sylvester Okeguale, gave the assurance, during a training session for members of the association on personal and environmental hygiene, as well as skills for care.
While commending the herbal healers for their passion for the treatment and rehabilitation of persons living with mental illness, he noted that the government will continue to support them to improve their skills.
Okeguale said the state government is committed to enhancing the capacity of herbal practitioners, urging them to adhere to proper personal hygiene and clean working environment.
Chairman, Association of Lunatic Healers, Edo State, Dr. Samuel Kayode Oghaimeh, expressed appreciation to the state government for the training, which he said, has enriched the members with new knowledge on how to improve their practice.
Facilitators at the training are the Head of Social Welfare Unit, Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Uselu, Agho Ifueko Taiwo, and a Social Welfare Officer with the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Mrs. Felicia Igbinovia.
