Monday June 2, 2025, Benin City, Nigeria – The Ikpoba Okha Local Government has officially distanced itself from an unauthorized taskforce and an illegal mobile court that operated on Saturday at the Egba Skill Acquisition Centre during the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
A video circulating online, credited to ITV, showed the activities of the alleged illegal mobile court, prompting widespread concern among residents. In response, the leadership of Ikpoba Okha Local Government issued a statement refuting any connection to the unauthorized operation, emphasizing that the council had no role in its establishment or execution.
According to the council chairman, Rt. Hon. Jolly Obosa Ogbeide, the legitimate mobile court was stationed at the Council Secretariat, not at the Egba Skill Acquisition Centre, where the unauthorized setup was discovered. He further clarified that the official taskforce was accompanied by health workers and moved across the local government area as part of the sanitation exercise.
The individuals involved in the unauthorized operation have reportedly been handed over to the police for investigation. The council chairman reassured residents that his administration remains committed to transparency, legality, and the protection of citizens’ rights, stressing that such unsanctioned activities will not be tolerated.
Residents have been urged to remain calm as authorities continue their investigation into the matter.
