The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has stressed the need for collective effort to make the state safe, inisting that security is the utmost for his administration.Governor Obaseki said this during a courtesy visit from a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Sapphire Shield Security and Safety Awareness Initiative.Represented by the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation Hon. Andrew Emwanta, Obaseki lauded the organisation for its effort towards collaborating with the State Government to reinforce the security of lives and properties in the State.The Governor assured the NGO of government’s support, while encouraging other NGOs to take the initiative of joining hands with the Government in making Edo the best that it can be, adding that “a time will come when Edo will be one of the few destinations where people can freely move into, this will attract investors and tourist”.
Governor Obaseki further explained that security is a key factor in the development of the State, pointing out that the Edo State Government is the first to establish the State Property Protection Committee whose duty it is to protect the lives and property of Edo People. He said this is one of the ways his government is showing investors that Edo is secure and business friendly.In his words the Governor said “it is the duty of the Government to provide security for its citizens and as a State the Government will not relent their effort in doing that”.
Earlier, the State Coordinator for the NGO Rev Dr. Sheriff Azeke appreciated the Governor for his warm welcome and developmental strides in the fight against insecurity in the State.Azeke also informed the Governor of the planned statewide security campaign his orgnisation has planned for October 1, 2022, explaining that the Organization is focused on the security of the people.The highpoint of the meeting was the presentation of the Award of Excellence to the Governor, a badge and a sash conferring him as the Grand Patron of the NGO.
