Lagos, Nigeria – Former Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has called on current governors to invest in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) to drive digital transformation and development in their states. Speaking at the 31st anniversary dinner of the Association of Telecoms Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) in Lagos, where he was honored with the ‘Digital Governor of the Year Award,’ Obaseki emphasized the critical role of technology in state and national progress.
Obaseki highlighted the necessity for governments, organizations, and communities to embrace technology to avoid becoming obsolete. He stressed the importance of creating an enabling environment for digital advancements to flourish, noting that Africa and Nigeria must prioritize technological innovation to empower their citizens.
During his virtual address, Obaseki expressed gratitude for the award and dedicated it to the digital champions in Edo State who worked tirelessly to support the state’s digital transformation initiatives. He acknowledged their efforts in deploying internet and tech solutions that have empowered various sectors, including education, healthcare, and security.
