The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded an increase in revenue collection, according to figures released by the service on Wednesday.
Customs officials attributed the growth to improved enforcement measures, deployment of digital platforms, and intensified anti-smuggling operations across ports and border commands. The agency also cited better compliance among importers as a contributing factor.
The Comptroller-General of Customs stated that the service remains committed to blocking revenue leakages while facilitating legitimate trade. He noted that modernization efforts, including automation of clearance processes, have helped reduce delays and improve transparency.
Economic analysts say increased customs revenue could support government spending, particularly in infrastructure and social services. However, they also stressed the need for policies that balance revenue generation with ease of doing business.
