Fresh concerns are emerging nationwide as fuel marketers warn of possible supply disruptions following disagreements with the Federal Government over pricing and logistics costs.
Marketers say rising transportation expenses, foreign exchange volatility, and port-related charges have made fuel distribution increasingly unsustainable at current pump prices. Some depot owners reportedly slowed loading activities, triggering fears of another round of scarcity.
In major cities including Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, motorists have begun panic buying, while queues were observed at select filling stations. Transport operators warn that prolonged supply issues could drive fare increases, compounding the cost-of-living crisis.
The government insists that supply remains stable and has urged Nigerians to avoid panic buying. However, energy analysts caution that unresolved disputes could quickly spiral into nationwide shortages.
Labour unions have also weighed in, warning that any sharp fuel price hike would worsen hardship for workers and low-income households.
