The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has called on President Bola Tinubu and party stakeholders to return the national chairmanship of the party to the region, following the resignation of Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje.
In a statement released in Abuja, the Forum described Ganduje’s exit as a “golden opportunity” to correct what it termed a long-standing injustice against the North-Central of Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, who proved himself to be a capable National Chairman, though not what we wished for, has presented the party with a golden opportunity to right the wrongs and correct the injustice done to the North-Central,” the statement read.
The Forum, led by Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, emphasized that the APC had previously zoned the chairmanship to the North-Central and that the region should be allowed to complete the tenure of former chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu. Zazzaga noted that the Forum had even taken legal steps to assert this position before suspending its agitation in the interest of party unity.
Under Ganduje’s leadership, the APC saw significant gains, including high-profile defections and electoral victories. However, with his resignation, the Forum insists it is time to honor the party’s internal zoning arrangement and restore balance.
The group urged Acting Chairman Ali Bukar Dalori to convene a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to facilitate the emergence of a substantive chairman from the North-Central. “This is not about entitlement,” Zazzaga said. “It’s about fairness, justice, and equity.”
As the APC navigates this leadership transition, the North-Central Forum’s demand adds a new layer of urgency to the party’s internal politics — and a test of its commitment to inclusivity and balance.
