The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has hailed Edo people for their support for his administration in the past six years, reassuring the government’s commitment to delivering all electoral promises to Edo people before the end of his eight-year tenure.
Obaseki said this during the Thanksgiving Service for the 2022 Alaghodaro Summit, at the Government House, Benin City, the Edo State capital.
Present at the thanksgiving service are Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comr. Philip Shaibu and his wife, MaryAnn; Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq.; Rev. Felix Omibude; Rev. Tioluwani Aderibigbe; Rev. Micheal Oyanofo, and Apostle Gordon Osagiede, among others.
The governor said, “I thank God for helping my administration in the last six years. After today, our administration is beginning to wind down and we have so much to do in the next two years than we have done in the last six years. We have to sustain everything we have started and we trust God to see us through.
“I thank all Edo people, clergymen, market women and every Edo resident for their prayers, support and commitment which has ensured that we succeed. Thank you very much. I assure you that by the grace of God, we will not disappoint you. We will do everything humanly possible in the next two years as we try to complete all that we set out to do and put out mechanisms to sustain what we have done so that nobody in future can reverse the progress we have made.”
Obaseki continued: “Despite difficulties, God is with us as a nation. Nigeria is at a turning point. We want to thank the Church for standing by us right from the beginning of our administration. We held close to the Church as we saw them as that barometer to help us gauge what is happening to the ordinary people of Edo state. When society and government fails, the Church carries the burden. We don’t play with the Church because through them we get to know what is hurting our people.
“I want to encourage everyone and remind us that despite the difficulties and challenges we face, this country and state is blessed. From what God has used us to do in Edo in the last six years, God will replicate it all over the nation.”
Reeling gains of the transformative projects and reforms across all sectors by his administration, Obaseki noted that government has improved the economy of the state as Edo has become an investment destination.
He added, “Great things are happening in Edo. That is the reason for the huge traffic experienced in the state as hotels are getting large patronage. I want to thank my colleagues who have worked with me to achieve this feat so far. They have supported me to succeed greatly. We have a lot of work to do as a lot is still demanded from us.”
Delivering his sermon titled, “We are more than Conqueror,” the Archbishop of Anglican Communion Edo, Delta Province, Archbishop Cyril Odutemu said, “In developing the state, you may have stepped on toes and offended people all for the sake of achieving development and prosperity for the state. God will help and protect you.
“I call on the people of the state and the nation not to lose hope in this difficult and challenging time. We need to look unto God to lift us out from these problems.”
