The Acting Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu has played host to the representatives of the Federal Ministry of Works, Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) and the contracting firms to address the failed portions of the Benin – Auchi Express Way.
Briefing journalists at the Government House, the Acting Governor said: “it was concluded and agreed that the State Government in collaboration with NEWMAP and the Federal Ministry of Works, will handle the issues of compensation and water discharge points which have been the major factor affecting the continuation of the dualization project.”
He added: “We have identified some of these affected areas that require water discharge points and the houses affected; we have agreed on how to compensate the affected individuals to allow the dualization work to continue”.
“The palliative work has started on the road to allow vehicular movement while finding quality and lasting solutions to the road. This can only be achieved if the residents of this area cooperate with the contractors handling this project”.
“Edo is a business hub that connects the South to the North, to the East and West. We will be doing ourselves and the country a favour if we cooperate to resolve the issues of compensation and water discharge points.”
In his remarks, Edo State Controller of Works and Housing, Engr. Razaq Aransiola noted that the palliative work will be done as soon as possible to allow free vehicular movement, pending when the contentious issues are resolved to pave way for a lasting and more permanent fixing of the failed portions of the road.
