Royaltoms Football Club of Lagos, Braveheart Ladies FC and Fortress Ladies FC of Benin have been presented with consolation prizes after they crashed out at the group stage of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT).
Presenting a cheque of N500, 000 each to the teams, the Permanent Secretary, Edo State Sports Commission, Mrs. Sabina Chikere commended the efforts of the teams and urged the players not to relent in their careers.
She said, “You people have done well; I commend you for the spirit of sportsmanship. There is another opportunity next year at the third edition of the tournament where you will put in your best.”
The coach of Royaltoms of Lagos State, Olajide Royal hailed the facilitator of the tournament and Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, noting, “The tournament created an opportunity for the girls to showcase their talent.”
He added that the opportunity will go a long way to encourage more female participation in professional football.
The captain of Braveheart Ladies FC Benin City, Flourence Emmanuel also hailed Mrs. Betsy Obaseki for the opportunity to participate in the second edition of the tournament, adding, “We participated in the competition to do our best and showcase our talents.”
The proprietor of Fortress Ladies FC, Aimuagbonrie Jimmy commended the organisers of the competition for the opportunity to feature in this year’s edition of the tournament, adding, “We were able to score a goal this year as against last year when we didn’t score any goal. The improvement in this year’s edition is better. The consolation prize is good and will help solve a lot of problems facing the team.”
