Edo State House of Assembly has announced the inclusion of two members of the opposition party, APC as members of the Principal Officers Council, Principal Officer Council(POC).
They are the member representing Owan East, Hon.Eric Okaka who is to function as Minority leader, and the member representing Orhionmwon East, Hon Osamwonyi Atu as Minority whip.
The Speaker, Rt.Hon. Blessing Agbebaku who announced the positions of the members had said during the last plenary that the House received letters from PDP, APC, and LP for the composition of the membership of the Principal Officers Council.
After the inclusion of the members in POC, the Speaker urged members of the House to work for the common good and benefits of their constituencies and the State.
Similarly, the speaker also announced the constitution of House Standing Committees and he is to head the House Standing Committee on Selection.
According to him, the Deputy Speaker Hon. Maria Edekor will head Committee on Tenders Board, the majority leader, Hon. Charity Aiguobarueahian will chair Committee on Rules, Business and Government House while Committee on Finance, Economic Planning and Development is to be headed by the Chief Whip, Hon. Prince Yekini Idaiye.
Each member of the 24-member assembly has a committee to chair.
In another development, the House adopted a resolution calling on relevant agencies to urgently fix a failed portion at Ayogwiri on Auchi-Fugar-Agenebode Road that has been cut off by erosion occasioned by heavy rainfall.
The adoption of the resolution was sequel to a motion moved by a member representing Etsako East, Hon. Kingsley Ugabi under matters of urgent public importance.
The lawmaker told the parliament the untold hardship the failed portion had subjected the people to explaining that they were left with no option but to take alternative longer routes to access their destinations.
Other lawmakers who spoke on the matter, stressed the need for the relevant agency to urgently swing into action by fixing the failed portions of the said roads to alleviate the plight of the people.
They noted that Edo State is a connecting point to the various parts of the country, adding that the federal government should consider the pain of Edo people.
The attention of the house was also drawn to the fatal accident on ovia River Bridge on Benin city- Ore Express road by the Member Representing Ovia south west Constituency ,Hon. Destiny Enabulele who sympathized with families of the victims.
In his remarks , Speaker Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku commended the state Government for commencing palliative work to forestall further occurrence .
The plenary was thereafter adjourned to 11th July 2023, after an adjournment motion moved by Hon. Yekini Idaiye and seconded by Hon. Destiny Enabulele.
