The Federal Government has approved the recruitment of additional teachers for public primary and secondary schools nationwide, in a move aimed at addressing teacher shortages and improving learning outcomes.
The approval was announced by the Ministry of Education, which noted that thousands of teaching positions would be filled across states in collaboration with state governments and education boards. Priority will be given to core subjects, including mathematics, sciences, and English language.
Education experts have long warned that overcrowded classrooms and insufficient teaching staff negatively affect student performance. The government says the recruitment drive aligns with its commitment to strengthening the education sector and reducing youth unemployment.
According to officials, the process will follow merit-based selection, with emphasis on qualified graduates and certified teachers. Training and capacity-building programs are also expected to accompany the recruitment exercise.
Parents and education stakeholders have welcomed the move but stressed the need for transparency and timely deployment of teachers to underserved communities.
