The Edo State Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, Hon. Ethan Uzamere, has assured residents that Edo State Government led by Governor Godwin Obaseki will continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to the good people of Edo State. He also assured that the project is expected to be delivered in 2024.
Uzamere gave the assurance during the inspection of Benin-Abraka road project, which is a legacy project of His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki. At the project site, he said the inspection was aimed at assessing the progress and quality of work being carried out on the stretch given the economic impact of the road to the people of Edo State.
According to him, “This is Benin-Abraka road and it is one of the legacy projects of His Excellency, Mr Godwin Obaseki because it connects a lot of communities in Edo and it borders Delta State. We are here for monitoring and to make sure the contractors deliver the job to specifications.”
“This road is broken down into three phases. We expect that the phase 1 and phase 2 will be completed sometime next year, we are trying to see what we can do to speed up the pace for the phase 3 as well.”
On his part, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Bridges, Engr. Ferguson Enabulele said Edo State Government has kept to the terms of the contract financially and that Edo State Government has implored the engineers on quicker delivery.
According to him, “We have asked the contractors to submit a revised work program in the first week of January where we would seat down together and review. We have expressed our concerns which we have related to the contractors. We want the pace accelerated, we want more equipment and personnel introduced.”
“Although, we also know that the raining season has not been too kind to the construction industry. As we speak it rained yesterday because of global weather change. We are committed to it but so far so good it is very good.”
