The Edo State Government has intensified traffic control measures across major roads in Benin City in response to increasing congestion and road safety concerns.
Officials from the Edo State Traffic Management Agency disclosed that additional traffic officers have been deployed to busy junctions, including Ring Road, Airport Road, and Ugbowo axis. The measures also include enforcement against illegal parking, roadside trading, and traffic violations.
According to the agency, the initiative aims to improve traffic flow, reduce accidents, and enhance commuter safety, particularly during peak hours. Motorists have been advised to comply with traffic rules and cooperate with officers on duty.
Residents have expressed mixed reactions, with some welcoming the move as long overdue, while others called for better road signage and public awareness campaigns to complement enforcement efforts.
