The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has granted full accreditation status to National Diploma (ND) in Mass Communication, Pharmaceutical Technology and two other academic programmes at the Edo State Polytechnic, Usen.
Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Omoruyi Sylvester, said the board granted the full accreditation status after a Quality Assurance Visitation Exercise to the Polytechnic in April 2023.
The two other programmes with full accreditation from the last exercise are: ND in Science Laboratory Technology and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Public Administration.
The rector said the outcome of the accreditation exercise was contained in a letter by the NBTE Director, Polytechnic Programmes, Are Ngbede Ogoh, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Board, Prof. Idris Bugage, addressed to the polytechnic management.
Engr. Omoruyi expressed profound appreciation to the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for his unflinching commitment to the development of tertiary education in the state and the tremendous support to the polytechnic.
He lauded the state government for its effort in ensuring that the polytechnic delivers quality and qualitative education and pushing the boundaries of research and development.
Noting that the governor’s education reforms are yielding fruits, the rector said through the governor’s support, more programmes are going to be presented to the NBTE for accreditation to ensure that they meet the minimum requirements and deliver value to students.
Engr. Omoruyi said the polytechnic prides itself as a leading center of academic excellence and will continue to encourage ground-breaking research to solve societal problems.
He revealed that within a space of four months, the Polytechnic has invited NBTE for Quality Assurance Visitation Exercise on two occasions and has successfully secured accreditation for 10 academic programmes.
The Rector commended the NBTE Executive Secretary, Professor Idris Bugaje and the polytechnic staff and management for their support and cooperation in ensuring that the Polytechnic delivers quality education.
