The Edo State Public Works Volunteers (PUWOV), on Thursday, warned newly recruited officers of the scheme against extortion and acts that infringe on the fundamental human rights of citizens of the state.
The PUWOV State Commander, Mukhtar Yusuf-Osagie, gave the charge during a replacement passing-out parade for 85 newly recruited officers at Imaguero College, in Benin City.
Noting that PUWOV in the state will not tolerate indiscipline, Yusuf-Osagie said anyone caught undermining the system will face stiff disciplinary measures according to the law.

He said, “Before this replacement passing-out parade today, we had some of our staff who got married and relocated while others got better job offers, making us lose a few of our men.
“We also have a sizeable number of defaulters who are being replaced today. In PUWOV, we don’t encourage indiscipline; once we find out that you are misbehaving, we show you the door out.
“You must ensure the protection of the fundamental human rights of all Edo citizens. You must not engage in any form of extortion while carrying out your duties and you must not use your powers to victimize or intimidate anybody.”
“You must respect constituted authorities. If you are involved in any form of harassment, extortion and infringement on fundamental rights of citizens you will be prosecuted according to the laws,” the PUWOV coordinator warned.
Speaking on behalf of the newly recruited PUWOV officers, Matthew Uhunamure, commended the state government for the opportunity to serve, pledging to work with other members of the team to ensure safety and sanity across the state.
